Odessa city authorities have adopted a decision to build a new freeway connecting the city`s port with a ring road. Construction will be conducted on concessionary terms. The City State Administration has already signed the corresponding agreement with a domestic road construction company. As the press service of the administration informed KW, "The new high way will help relieve traffic on the current roads by redirecting the traffic of heavy vehicles to and from the port and also improve the city`s ecological situations." According to the plans, the new freeway will go into operation in 2006. The total cost of the construction of the first section of the highway will be Hr 24 Mn. As the financing of the construction will be executed though a concessionaire, use of the freeway will be on a toll basis. According to preliminary calculations, the maximum toll for heavy transport trucks with a load capacity of up to 5 tonnes will be Hr 2.80, while for vehicles with a load capacity of more than 5t the toll will be Hr 11.20. After the concession term has expired, the highway will be conveyed to the city as its own property.
